I do not run people through poses. Most of my best frames come from standing somewhere slightly inconvenient for twenty minutes, waiting on something I could tell was about to happen.

The other half of the job is knowing what you will need later. A recap post needs different images than a grant report. A recruiting deck needs different images than a press release. I shoot for all of it, because there is no second day.

Clients tell me the galleries look like the day actually felt. That is the whole goal.

Everybody wants the photograph of the ribbon getting cut. Almost nobody thinks about the two hours before, when volunteers are setting up chairs and the director is fixing a name card that spelled somebody wrong.

That is usually where the story is, and it is almost always the part that makes people feel something six months later.

Because I love it. Friday nights, sidelines, fourth quarter, the walk off the field.

I have shot on select assignment for Dave Campbell's Texas Football since 2023 and carried a Dallas ISD media credential since 2024. Sports coverage for programs and clubs is a real part of the practice now, and the published side lives at Field Notes.

If a day genuinely needs two cameras, I bring in a second shooter and stay on primary coverage myself. Most events do not need that, and I will tell you when yours does not rather than selling you an extra body.

I also run Chronicle House, a digital architecture practice that builds infrastructure, learning, and tools for programs and businesses. Separate company, separate work.

I mention it because it makes me better at this one. I spend the other half of my working life on the far side of the photograph, building the platforms images end up inside. So when a marketing director tells me what they need, I already know what their CMS will do to a horizontal crop.
